Like a prince in rags by memai-kins Like a prince in rags by memai-kins
My Breton, Alrek, and ~SilverDragalos's Bosmer, Tamsin. Sharin' a moment, they're probably at Tam's house in Riften, and Alrek's supposed to be back at the college but decided to stay around a little longer.

IDK, I just thought it'd be cute?

I would totally do that Bosmer. He's so pretty.

Though I can't work out from this picture whether the Breton is male or female.

I can't do critiques because it would involve more knowledge of art than I have, but I think everything's great except for the Bosmer's hands. His left hand is very oddly shaped, and his right hand looks like a foot. Apart from that, I love it!

My personal headcanon is that Bretons look a touch androgynous-- but Alrek's a dude, no worries ;> I thought the wider shoulders might've given that away? And the Bosmer's right hand is angled that way so you only see the fingertips ^^; I usually reference hands but asjlk I didn't have anything with me at the time weh weh weh

But! Thank you all the same! :3 I really appreciate your critique! I'll definitely try to keep your points in mind for the next picture :3

Oh... and I just went through your gallery, and realised I've already seen Alrek several times from the front :). Definitely wouldn't mistake him for female then, although he's very, *very* pretty. In a rather adorable way. Indeed, Alix (my Breton) is leaning forward in my head and declaring that if he wasn't happily married to Martin Septim, he would totally do him. Thank you for that comment, Alix!

Alrek, surprisingly, is only my *second* pretty boy XD The rest are all dudes and manly men haha But I definitely wanted him to look like those nobles from the old, classical paintings; where the men had very soft, boyish features, feminine faces, etc.

That and my second headcanon is that Bretons live longest among all the other human races, so I imagine they age slower.

And Alrek is definitely flattered, though he doesn't consider himself much of a looker (shock and horror) ;>

I think it was the hair as much as anything. It seems like quite a girly bob. I've definitely seen plenty of women who look like that from behind! Mind you, I'm not 100% perfect at judging gender even in real life, so don't get too upset by my opinions.

I agree with your headcanon. My male Breton is both short and feminine enough for people to be initially uncertain of his gender. There's a couple of pictures of what he looks like in the game in my dA, but that's not exactly how he looks in my head - I just wanted to make him in the game so other people could see, since drawing him is out - I have as much artistic talent as a walrus.

On the other hand (are we up to three now? I think so!) my husband and I went through the Elder Scrolls Slash community here the other day discounting about a third of the supposedly-male characters as "boobless women" :). My husband actually said, of a few characters, "If men had arses like that, *I*'d fancy men!". Apparently I like pretty, androgynous men who are still obviously men. That's a tall order, isn't it?

Hahaha oh man XD Your husband sounds like the reasonable sort then ;D *shot* But surprisingly I know a lot of folks on the Elder Scrolls fandom over on tumblr, and most of them seem to prefer manly-men. Alrek's one of the few human males in our RP group who looks androgynous-- the rest are all Altmers and pretty Bosmers :P

But pretty androgynous men who still are obviously men is a nice balance methinks ;> Not that I could complain-- I kind of like how Breton dudes have softer features compared to the SUPER TESTOSTERONE PUMPED NORDS or the super sharp, angular features of the Imperials ; w;

I may or may not have a fancy for things like racial differences and whatnot ; w; Especially in the fantasy genre ♥

My husband is rather alarmed by the thought that other women's husbands wouldn't let them look at slash. He thinks he has no right to stop me looking at/reading anything I want to. Besides, he reaps the rewards when I jump on him because I'm all hot and bothered by reading about sexy men doing each other ;).

He, by the way, worked out why I thought Alrek-from-the-back looked like a woman, but I don't know if you're going to want to hear this.

Okay.

Ready?

Velma from Scooby-Doo.

In this drawing it's the exact same bob hairstyle that she has, and the exact same colour, and Velma is pretty butch, and Alrek is pretty girly... Oh dear. Anyway, so that's the problem :).

Sorry.

Most welcome! The glow effect in the lighting is nice as well, btw. It's not so hard to notice details, it only requires to look at the picture for a little more than 3 seconds. I find it sad that lolcats, facebook and tweeters have appeared, before their rise people would care a little more about the quality of what they watch than the quantity. Surely I look less pictures but when I do I have the time to analyze and comment no matter if I fav or not.

Well, it's good to know that you're taking the time out of your day to do that ; w; I can't begin to tell you how much it means to an artist to have their hard work being noticed and paid off ; w; I hope more folks take your example <3

I'm like you, ever hoping someone will have the kindness to leave me some comment rather than fav and run. At some point I understood that asking was damn useless so I decided to give what I want to the other and hope some will do the same, even if they don't necessarily comment on my works, but comment on people's works nonetheless. That's part of why I'm still on dA, to resist against selfishness and self-centeredness.
It's always a little painful to see how people became unable to focus on anything. I write a lot and I know I write well, even if English isn't my native language, but people don't have the time to read anymore. Or they need images to catch their attention, like children. And even that isn't always enough. It worries me.
